As Liberian Football League Remains In the Dark; Inter -Governmental League Takes Center Stage
The annual football and kickball tournament organized by the Youth and Sports Ministry for employees of all government ministries and agencies is back on in Liberia with scores of government appointees and their staffers turning out at various venues to take on their colleagues from other agencies.
The tournament is played amongst none active athletes working at the various government ministries and agencies.
The tournament got off at the weekend and continued on a wet Tuesday at three venues with results going the way of many of the tournament favorites.
There were victories for Intra-Governmental League Organizers, the Youth and Sports Ministry, last edition defeated finalists, Monrovia City Corporation, (MCC), the General Auditing Commission (GAC) and the Judiciary on match day two of the Intra-Governmental 2018 Championship.
The Youth and Sports Ministry relied on the services of two former national team players to get past the current of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC).
Isaac Tondo and Oliver Markor scored each to ensure the Youth and Sports Ministry defeated the LEC 2-1 at the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex.
The LEC, however, defeated the Youth and Sports Ministry in kickball 7-5 home-runs.
The Monrovia City Corporation announced their intention of reaching the final once again with a 3-0 win over the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation.
The MCC also won the LWSC 7-3 in kickball at the Barclay Training Center.
The Auditors of the General Auditing Commission staged a 3-1 victory over the National Housing Authority in the SKD Complex late match.
The National Housing Authority lead by Deputy Director Tugbeh Che Tugbeh missed plenty of begging chances in that match.
The Housing Girls got some smiles coming the way of the NHA, as they overcame the GAC 17-11 in kickball.
The Judiciary defeated the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) 1-0 at the ATS.
In other results, the Elections Commission and the Maritime Authority played to a 0-0 draw in football.
It was similar scoreline between Finance Ministry and the GSA at the ATS.
The EPA held the Justice Ministry to a 1-1 draw at the BTC in football.
In kickball, the EPA defeated Justice Ministry 9-7 home-runs, the JFK loss to the Public Works Ministry 3-8 at the BTC.
Judiciary dragged the PCC 11-0 home-runs in kickball at the ATS, just before the GSA suffered a 4-6 defeat at the hands of the Dollars ladies of the Finance Ministry.
LACE whipped the National Bureau of Concession 10-9 home-runs in the late kickball game at the ATS and played the National Bureau of Concession to a 1-1 draw in football.
The Competition continues Wednesday with three matches at both the BTC and the ATS.
More than 44 government ministries and agencies are competing in the competition.
There are no cash prizes for winners of the tournament except for trophies and medals winners received.
The Defense Ministry is the defending football champions and the Liberia Revenue Authority is the defending champions in the kickball.
