First Lady Clar Weah made history Wednesday when she led the kickball team of the Ministry of States to its biggest win in the Intra Governmental league.
Madam Weah playing as first striker (#4) for the Ministry of States Kickball team Wednesday inspired them to a famous win over the Internal Affairs Ministry ladies in a Group C pairing.
The Ministry of States scored a 21-0 home-runs victory over the Internal Affairs Ministry at the BTC with First Lady Clar Weah captaining the team.
That score-line is the biggest not only for the Ministry of States but for the tournament since its inception more than ten years ago. No side has won with such a score-line.
Madam Weah’s presence brought a huge attraction to that match as spectators were thrilled by the ladies as they kicked and ran on the basses to score home runs.
Madam Weah became the first high profile female government official to play in the competition since Madam Jackie Capeheart then serving as Deputy Youth and Sports Minister captained the Ministry to several wins.
The win qualifies the Ministry of States Kickball team to the last sixteen stage or the knockout stage.
The Ministry of states Kickballers qualified after two wins in three matches in Group C.
Also qualified, two times football champions LBS Falcons staged a 0-0 draw against LISGIS to book a last sixteen stage.
The Intra-Governmental League is held annually by the Youth and Sports Ministry for only employees and contractors working at the various government entities.
Only retired or non-active football and kickball players are allowed to compete in the tournament, as organizers say it is reserved for people above 35 years.
Kickball Sport is presently the second popular sport in Liberia behind men’s football and ahead of basketball.
The game is played by women with their legs and hands in Liberia.
