Stakeholders of Liberian Football at the weekend voted to make changes to the December 2017 amended LFA Constitution.

The amendment was made at an extraordinary congress at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) Complex in Central Monrovia.

The Saturday, July 21, 2018, sitting became necessary following a lawsuit and complaints to FIFA over the conduct of April 14, 2018, Liberia Football Association election which is yet to be completed.

A serious dispute erupted during and after that Ordinary Congress on April 14, with the City Court on the request of one Presidential Candidate George Solo issuing an injunction on the presidential runoff.

FIFA responded to the complaints from that election that reached Zurich by calling on the LFA to correct its statutes because there were some inconsistencies and bad laws within the constitution.

So, to ratify this, an Extra-Ordinary Congress was called by the recently elected Executives Committee.

Article 58 in the December 2017 Revised Statutes called for only College or University Degree holders to contest the LFA Presidency and two vice president positions were changed.

The change means to qualify to contest any of the elective positions in the Liberia Football Association; one must possess a minimum qualification of high school diploma.
Also, Stakeholders voted to change the age limitation from 35-years to 25-years.

The degree and age issues were described by FIFA as “discriminatory” in a recent communication to the Local Football House.

Also changed was Article 45.3 which talks about the number of nomination candidates should obtain when applying to contest in LFA elections.

Candidates will now have to present the following nomination when seeking to contest in the LFA elections.

Article 45.3 “Every candidate in the election of the President Vice Presidents and Executive Committee members must be proposed by members in the following order:”

I. President – Nomination by five (5) members II Vice Presidents- Nomination by (3) members.
III. Executive Committee members-Nomination by two (2) members
