Never You Give Up – Vice President Howard-Taylor Tells Adventist University Graduates
Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has encouraged graduates of the Adventist University of West Africa (AUWA) to remain steadfast in their educational sojourn and to never give up in whatever they do.
Serving as keynote speaker at the 4th graduation and convocation ceremony of AUWA in Margibi County on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, Liberia’s Vice President called on the grandaunts to persevere in their every day’s life and not be complacent with their current status in the society.
Speaking on the theme “How to be Springs in the Desert,” Vice President Howard-Taylor premise her words of encouragement on biblical teachings which she claimed, when observed by the graduates will bring forth good tidings as they endeavor in making their lives better.
Quoting Isaiah 43: 8 – 21 which among other things talks about God showing infinite love and mercy for his followers despite their ugly past, Vice President Howard-Taylor said it will only be prudent if the graduates put their burden on their Creator (God) and work towards their faith in him.
According to the Vice President, despite the children of Israel being in the desert their faith in God was the only beacon of hope which eventually became the spring in their desert.
She said nowadays in Liberia most people only think about the desert nature of the country and do not foresee the spring that is contained within the desert that will in the soonest possible time become visible.
She said those Liberians who are only concern about the desert situation of the country may form part of the external forces (opposition bloc) depending on which side of the argument they subscribed to but must not be followed by those with optimistic minds of the country.
“I’m here this morning to tell you that your life, your success, and your happiness does not depend on the circumstances you find yourself in nor on your environment….if you do not love your environment you can change it, if you have a faulty heritage, you can command a change and you can work to shift your destiny, if somehow you feel incapacitated, you can get up from today and began to be the person you want the future to be. All of us have God-given possibilities and the power of imagination which can help you rise above your circumstances. You can indeed change your mind and attitude and by doing so you can change your path of life,” Vice President Howard- Taylor told the one hundred and ninety-six (196) graduates of the Adventist University of West Africa.
Meanwhile, the Vice President as part of efforts to encourage the newest graduates provided a total of US$1,000.00 to both the male and female students who graduated with the highest GPA’s.
In a related development, Vice President Howard-Taylor has congratulated Liberians who have decided to celebrate the country’s 171st Independence anniversary despite the prevailing economic situation of the country.
According to her, efforts are being made by the current administration to stabilize the country’s economy which in turn will bring relief to the ordinary Liberians.
Liberia’s Vice President made these statements Thursday, July 26, 2018, when she had a mini independent day party for members of the disabled community and some disadvantage Liberians (Zogoes) at the grounds of the Capitol Building.
