The Ministry of State Thursday recorded history in the Intra-Governmental League as the Ministry became the first entity to win both kickball and football trophies in one season.
The Ministry of State did so by winning the Youth and Sports Ministry in both kickball and football finals.
The Ministry of State ladies inspired by the presence of First Lady Clar Weah came from 2-0 home-runs down to pin the Youth and Sports Ministry 3-2 home-runs to win the kickball title.
The Youth and Sports Ministry ladies led the Ministry of State ladies throughout but conceded 3-home-runs in the last inning to succumb to defeat, thus handing the giant size trophy to the State ladies.
The First Lady was expected to play, but pulled out from the match citing injury issues, but cheered the Ministry of State Ladies from the VIP Box of the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex.
The trophy was the Ministry’s first in the completion, while the Youth and Sports Ministry, Organizers of the tournament continue their search for top silver wear in the competition in six years.
The Ministry of State won the double over the Youth and Sports Ministry as Soccer Legend, George Manneh Weah fine ball display thrilled the fans and inspired his boys to a 4-0 win in the football final at the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex.
The Soccer Legend was a treat throughout the match as he had hand in all four goals.
The Liberian President ghost pass two defenders in the 28th minute before he was brought down in the eighteen box by Gabriel Moses, with the referee pointing to the spot and awarding a yellow card to the defender.
That penalty was put to bed beautifully by Daniel Landford who added another goal in the 78th minute to give the Ministry of State a 3-0 lead.
President George Weah set up substitute, Banda Weah for the MOS second in the 74th minute, before beating two men and laying off a nice pass to the unmarked Daniel Landford for the Ministry’s third goal.
The Soccer Legend himself climaxed the scoring in the 84th minute when he headed in a Daniel Landford cross.
The final was the second appearance for the Ministry of State in three years losing first final appearance to the LBS Falcons.
Soccer Legend, George Weah who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and highest goal scorer, announced that he will not feature in the tournament again, as he wants others to showcase their talents.
The President expressed happiness for the tournament but said he will be a spectator to the tournament beginning next year as he will not have the time to play in competition or tournaments.
The President was presented with beautiful shields for his individual achievements.
President Weah, who scored eight goals in the tournament, was featured in the competition for only the second time, as he played twice for the National Legislature in the last competition.
