The Principal of the Mother of Jesus Christ Catholic High school in Dolo Town Lower Margibi County has decried government failure to provide subsidies to Private schools in the Country.

Mr. Stephen Quaqua in an interview with reporters at the end of the 8th thanksgiving and award program of the school over the weekend revealed that Private Schools across Liberia have over the years not been subsidized by the government of Liberia.

He indicated that most often they hear news of the donation of materials to the educational sector in Liberia with no trigger down effect on private schools.

“I want them to also know that donation to education is not only to public school, we are there to buttress their effort so they should be able to look down to us to say okay let’s send this on this side so they can help us” he expressed.

Mr. Quaqua added that students who are graduating from private schools are not from different Countries but they are rather from the same Country (Liberia) as such, the Ministry of Education should pay attention to private schools and subsidize them as it has been in the past.

He furthered that they hear about the donation of the huge amount of money and allocation of fund in the national budget for education among others expressing the need for private schools to also benefit from those funding.

According to him, money collected from students attending the various private schools is used to pay teachers and staffers something he added cannot set up Laboratory considering the high-cost materials that are required.

The Principal explained that Private Schools are been marginalized over the years stating, ‘there has been no incentive’.

He said private schools in the Country will appreciate if the government can provide Laboratory materials such as microscope as well as up to date textbooks to be able to prepare students for the WASSCE Exams. Mr. Quaqua meanwhile blamed the mass failure of students in the 2017/2018 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Exams (WASSCE) on the lack of Laboratories at various schools including private schools.
