Criminal Court “A” Sentences Police Officer Roosevelt Demann To 25yrs For Killing Motorcyclist Beyan Lamii

Criminal Court A at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has sentenced senior police officer Roosevelt Demann to 25-year imprisonment.

Roosevelt Demann was indicted by Jurors sitting in the August term of court for allegedly killing motorcyclist Beyan Lamii in April this year.
The officer was formally charged with murder days later.

Demann was Commander at the Tortoise Base Depot in Red- Light, Paynesville. He allegedly shot Beyan Lamii on Sunday, April 29 at about 10 pm after a tussle which erupted from a misunderstanding between both of them.

A police investigation then established that he allegedly committed the murder with a pistol at the Soul Clinic Junction. His lawyer, Cllr. Augustine Fayiah has taken exception to the sentence, announcing an appeal to the Supreme Court of Liberia.

Although Demann admitted to the commission of the crime, his lawyer argues that the 25-year sentence was inappropriate. Cllr. Fayiah said the act committed was never a murder, but manslaughter which is punishable by a maximum 5-year prison term.
