The Representative of electoral district #3 in Margibi County, Ellen A. Attoh will shortly embark on the distribution of assorted medical supplies to several health centers in the County.
The materials include Surgical Gloves, urine meter Foley Tray, Epidural, Disposable Electrosurgical and IV Fluids, Wheel Chairs and Crushes among others.
Speaking in an interview with The Monrovia Times in Kakata on Sunday September 23, 2018; the District #3 Lawmaker disclosed that the medical supplies were donated to her by Gateway Medical Alliance in the United States of America and will be donated to both public and private health facilities after she conducts a survey to see how many facilities will benefit from the gesture.
According to her, the donor of the materials (Gateway Medical Alliance) informed her that the monetary value of the medical supplies given to her is in the tone of one hundred thousand United States dollars.
The Representative further revealed that she got the assorted medical items after lobbying with the partners during her visit to the United States of America in July of 2018.
Hon. Attoh stated that everyone knows the need to improve the health system not only in her District or Margibi County but Liberia at large, and as such she saw the need and was able to lobby knowing what she did the first time when she was then the Representative-elect.
She noted that the small medical materials that she was able to get by then as Representative-elect went around and people were grateful about it and by that she saw the need to put in more time into seeing how best she can help to improve the health sector.
“So my lobbying carried me as far as America to meet some people, I was able to negotiate and by the grace of God this is the result that we have here today” she explained.
The Representative averred that the donated medical supplies will cut across Margibi and not only her District adding that though she understands that her District has the only Government referral Hospital (C.H. Rennie), but there are some private clinics in the County that are in need of medical materials.
Rep. Attoh narrated that her aim is to see into it that lives are saved at the end of the day something she said she is not particular about giving all the supplies to her District but once she can cut across and lives can be saved, she will be happy about it.
She added that there were people who needed help in the Community that the 20-foot container was offloaded and she gave them some materials noting that her aim is to be able to help the people of Liberia and not just Margibi.
Hon. Attoh meanwhile said the medical supplies are in fulfillment of one of her campaign promises in which she committed herself to push the health needs of her people because people die for several petit reasons pointing at an itchy skin disease commonly known as “be serious” that broke out in the County and she ran a mobile clinic.
She, however, said wherever she can get a connection from for her people there she will go once it can benefit the people until the people themselves say they don’t want it anymore.
This is the second time the Lawmaker will supply the various health facilities in the County with huge medical materials since she got elected in the District. It can be recalled that Hon. Attoh following her election in 2017 supplied both public and private health facilities with medical materials in the County.
