Thirty (30) current and ex-Liberian female footballers have earned “C” certificates in football coaching.
The ladies were awarded the certificates Monday after completing a weeklong intensive women football coaching training.
The training was provided by the Youth and Sports Ministry with Support from the Swedish Embassy and facilitated by the founder of
Futebol dá força Cecelia Safaee.
The training project is a bilateral cooperation and social integration program designed by the Ambassador of Sweden accredited near Monrovia to mainstream gender in sports.
The training which has been taking place at the SKD Sports Complex was climax Monday, September 24, 2018 with the presentation of certificates and words of encouragement for the new women coaches.
Making remarks, Swedish Ambassador to Liberia, Ingrid Wetterqvis expressed hope that the ladies will take the challenge to move women football forward in Liberia.
Ambassador Wetterqvis said she was happy that the training has taken place and hoped that the training of the ladies will add values to women football.
She added that the initiative is intended to show support to Liberia in its sports development agenda.
Also speaking was Acting Youth and Sports Minister Andy Quamie, who praised the Swedish Embassy for the support.
Minister Quamie said he was gratified that for the first time women were signaled out for such a training.
He challenged the ladies to become ambassadors of the project by going into the communities to share their knowledge with other females.
He said the government is looking for support for women football in Liberia.
Several of the ladies said will shortly begin negotiating with female clubs to get to management.
It was the first time a huge number of females were been trained to become coaches.
