Disable Community Plight Highlighted As NLA Executives Calls For Increase Budgetary Support
The newly appointed Deputy Director For Operations at the National Lottery Authority Neved P. Kortu has stressed the need for improvement and budgetary support to the Disabled Community in Liberia.
Mr. Kortu said the National Lottery Authority through its Social Welfare Department will endeavor to make major interventions in the Disabled community across the country, especially in areas of needs.
A Press Statement from the Lottery Office said Mr. Kortu made the commitment Tuesday, October 2, 2018 when he paid an acquaintance visit to Madam Florence Wafia-Ciaphia, Executive Director of the Group of 77, at her Newport Street office.
Among other things, the NLA is to supplement the Government of Liberia’s efforts in raising funds to support charitable and social services activities, such as but not limited to disabled, public welfare institutions, educational, cultural and scientific organizations.
The Release further quotes Mr. Kortu as saying the Pro-Poor Government of President George Weah remains committed to improving the well-being of persons living with disabilities in the country.
For her part, the Executive Director of the Group of 77, Madam Florence Wafia-Ciaphia congratulated Deputy Director Neved Kortu for his preferment by President George Weah and recent endorsement by the Board of Directors.
Madam Florence Wafia-Ciaphia expressed her willingness to closely work with Director Kortu and pleaded with him to make an immediate financial intervention, noting, the Group of 77 is in serious financial crisis.
