Lone Star Faces Last Hope Against Congo Red Devils
The Liberia National Team, the Lone Star takes on the visiting Red Devils on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the SKD Sports Complex in game four of Group G qualifying rounds for the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations.
The Lone Star lost in the first leg last Thursday 3-1 away to the Congolese in Brazzaville.
Ahead of today’s game, the National team Coach Thomas Kojo says despite last Thursday’s defeat, the Lone Star is improving.
Speaking to reporters Monday, Coach Kojo said he takes the blame for the defeat of the Lone Star in Brazzaville, but the team gave all of its best.
“I think in terms of coordination from our midfield to our attacking third, we played good possession football. We created chances, unfortunately, the players did not convert which is football. These things happened, And overall, defensively we did not do too well, but I take responsibility” Kojo told a gathering of Sports Reporters.
At the same time, Coach Kojo says a defeat for the Lone Star in Tuesday’s returned leg, will mean Liberia is out of the tournament.
Liberia is currently at the bottom of the table on 1 point and will have to take all three points if the Red, White, and Blue Outfit is to dream of reaching a third Nations Cup final.
The Lone Star has struggled since the dissolution of the famous “George Weah Eleven” to reach the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Coach Kojo told reporters that though he hasn’t been given a contract, he is making his contributions to Liberia and the team.
He added that the poor state of the LFA National League is a serious problem for getting the quality players to the national team.
Meanwhile, the Head Coach of the National team Thomas Kojo has released the starting lineup ahead of the national team match with Congo Brazzaville.
Coach Kojo has given senior team debut to Under-20 international goalkeeper Ashley Williams while Aloysius Simujla and Alvin Macronnel have been given a place in the starting lineup.
Joel Johnson is maintained at right back while Oscar Dorley and Allen Njie will pair up in midfield.
Anthony Snoti Laffor and Kpah Sherman will start in the 4-4-2 formation with Captain William Jerbo and Sam Johnson up front.
At the same time, the Security Committee at the LFA is warning people to stay away from the SKD Sports Complex if they don’t have tickets or accreditations to enter the Stadium.
The Committee Chairman, Pawala Janyan said there will be no free gate given, as such fans interested in witnessing the game must purchase tickets.
Pawala Janyan reminded Liberians that the country could face punishment for Caf and Fifa if things go out of hand at the SKD Sports Complex.
