The Championship race in the 2018 Liberia Football Association National League came to a climax at the weekend with Barrack Young Controllers out shinning LISCR FC and three other big clubs to the double.
BYC won the LFA First Division Championship title and the Liberian FA Cup title in the space of three days, beating LPRC Oilers and LISCR FC in both finals.
The BYC won the First Division title last Wednesday, beating LPRC 4-2 on penalties before whipping LISCR FC 4-0 in the FA Cup final on Friday.
The “Go Blue Boys” were presented trophies, medals and cash prizes for winning both titles.
They collected over 1m Liberian Dollar as a cash prize for their achievement in the two finals.
Besides winning the two crowns, BYC also qualified to compete at next year’s CAF Club Competition as champions of Liberia.
BYC will represent Liberia at the CAF Champions League, while the losing finalist in the Liberian FA Cup will represent Liberia at the CAF Confederation Cup.
BYC has been the most successful club in Liberia since, 2010, the last time Barrolle, one of the oldest teams won a title.
The LFA had to ensure the champions were decided before October 20, 2018, as the Confederation of African (CAF) had given a deadline to Liberia to register its two participating teams in the 2019 CAF Clubs Competitions.
The two teams, BYC, and LISCR FC completed their procedure just before the October 20 deadline expired according to our sources at the Liberia Football Association.
