The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that beginning Sunday, November 18, 2018, all VIP Tickets for football games involving the National Football Teams of Liberia (Lone Star) will be sold in an effort to support football in Liberia.
The Youth and Sports Ministry in a statement said,
“The latest decision comes in the wake of the Senior Lone Star’s crunch 2019 Nations qualifying match against Zimbabwe this Sunday”.
Before the pronouncements, all VIP tickets were given out as complementary to persons or individuals the Youth and Sports Ministry and the LFA had considered VIPs.
But the Ministry of Youth and Sports emphasized that it is important for more resources to be provided to the country’s national teams, as such people need to buy tickets.
The Ministry wants all VIPs attending football games in Liberia to support its move, by purchasing tickets in an effort to help promote the CDC led government’s Pro-Poor sports agenda.
It is however not clear as to whether the Ministry will enforce the sale of VIP tickets, as in recent years; entrance at the SKD and ATS during many Liberia Lone Star’s matches have been declared free by the Chief-Patrons of Sports.
In recent weeks, some Liberians football pundits have expressed frustrations about the declaration of free entrance to Lone Star games by Ex-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and now sitting President George Weah.
