Marshall Landlords Want Alleged Armed Robbers And Land Criminals Prosecuted

A group of Liberians claiming to be owners of Lands in Marshall Lower Margibi County are appealing to the resident Judge of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Kakata Margibi County, Mardea Tarr Chenoweth to prosecute the alleged armed robbers and land criminals that are currently behind bars at the Kakata Central Prison (Carter High).

On Thursday, November 22, 2018; over 10 persons including men and women some of whom currently reside in other Counties assembled in the Courtyard with placards appealing to the Judge not to release the accused individuals.

The placards beard various inscriptions such as “Judge Chenoweth please do not release arm robbers and land criminals; Emmanuel Smith, William Smith, Levy Keabah, George Tokpah”.

Mr. James Peabody, one of the Landlords in an interview with our reporter said the reason for their appeal is based on rumors they heard that Lawyers representing the alleged armed robbers and land criminals are working behind the scene in order for their clients to be released.

“We have come now to appeal to the Judge, please do not release armed robbers and land criminals, the day these boys were arrested the whole Marshall City was dancing and they were saying we’re free” he lamented.

Mr. Peabody disclosed that the accused are always chasing them out of their own Lands and illegally selling them to other people. He revealed that on Decoration Day he goes to Marshall to decorate the graves of his families who passed off, but these days he does not go there on grounds that he will be attacked by the guys.

He explained that his sister has 50 acres of land where he used to go but he is not allowed to go there because the guys have threatened to kill him should he go there.

According to him, these guys allegedly attacked a Landowner in Marshall identified as Mr. Wleh on his Land in August this year, chopped his driver in the car and took away his (Driver) phone.

Mr. Peabody added that the guys were arrested and sent to Court after Mr. Wleh whom they attacked filed a complaint against them.

He placed serious emphasis on Emmanuel Smith and William Smith terming them as the central figure in the entire land conflict that is always taking place in Marshall, adding that since their arrest the area has been in peace.
James Peabody meanwhile expressed fear that if the guys are released and return to Marshall, the issue of land conflict will get worse. He further advised those wishing to purchase Land in Marshall to pass through the City Mayor of Marshall City.
