Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee has filed five million plus United States dollar lawsuits against Grand Bassa Senator Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence and Cornelia Kruah Togba a contestant in the just ended Montserrado By-Election over an allegation of libel.
A full text of the Mayor’s complaint filed by his legal counsel Arthur Johnson to the sixth judicial Civil Law Court wants the Bassa Senator and Madam Togba to appear before the court to answer questions for character damage against the Mayor of Monrovia.
Mayor Koijee lawsuits follow accusation from both Senator Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence and Madam Cornelia Togba linking him to killing and severely wounding peaceful citizens at the close of the Montserrado District 13 campaign rally.
Addressing newsmen Wednesday in Monrovia Cllr. Arthur Johnson clarified that such allegation against the Mayor is false and misleading noting that it is intended to derail the good image of the Mayor internationally.
He added that said actions of both individuals against Mayor Koijee have also impeded the economic progress of the City of Monrovia.
According to him the Mayor’s was wrongfully portray on social media by some unscrupulous individuals as a way of undermining the social and political progress of the City.
He intoned that he has in possession a video recording and images that were thwarted by both individuals displaying the Mayor holding cutlasses squarely meant to tarnish his character through a propagandist approach.
“Because this statement is untrue, we are resolved to sue these two individuals,” Counselor Johnson remarked.
The Mayor, in his complaint prayed that Judge Yussif D. Kaba “adjudge the Defendants (1ST AND 2ND Defendants) Liable to Plaintiff, grant Plaintiff’s Complaint and award damages to Plaintiff in the amount of not less than USD$5,000,000.00 in General Damages to be decided by the trial Jury, USD$100,000.00 in Punitive Damages for factual and legal reasons as showed.”
The Legal Counsel representing the Mayor then disclosed that the both Madam Cornelia Togba and Senator Lawrence have acknowledged receipt of the Mayor’s complaint against them.
