Horoya FC Dumps BYC Out Of Caf Champions League
Guinean Champions Horoya FC Tuesday kicked out Liberian Champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) out of the 2018/19 Caf Champions League Preliminary rounds.
Horoya defeated BYC 1-0 in Tuesday’s return leg at the ATS in central Monrovia in front of a sizable crowd.
Yakhouba Mendo scored the lone goal in the 75th minute after a poor defensive work from the left back and the BYC keeper.
Horoya advanced to the next stage of the preliminaries on a 2-0 goal aggregate win over the Liberian Champions.
BYC lost the first leg away to Horoya FC 1-0 in Conakry last week.
The defeat ends Robert Lartey’s dream of becoming the first Liberia side to reach the group stage in Caf Champions league since Oilers did so in the 80s.
BYC put up some fine showing in the opening minutes of the match but failed to convert the two begging chances that came by.
Yaya Bility should have given BYC the lead inside eight minutes when he saw his effort flying over the sticks.
BYC top scorer, Trokon Myers had a goal ruled out for offside just before that match.
The Guineans also created chances of their own, but fine goalkeeping kept BYC in the match in the first half.
Meanwhile, LISCR FC will face USM of Algeria Wednesday in the returned leg in the preliminary rounds of the Caf Confederation Cup.
The game takes place at the ATS at 2 pm according to LISCR FC.
The Liberian club needs to score five unanswered goals against the Algerians if the Shipping Boys are to make a progress to the next round.
