The Bill Rogers Youth Foundation has awarded winners of the 2nd edition of its “5K Run for Change and Fun Walk” held in Monrovia on November 29, 2018. Winners of the events were awarded cash, medal, Book bags, Hardback copy books, pencils and rulers among others.
Awards/prizes were given to winners in various categories which include Youth and active runners, elderly, people with disabilities, Women and girls respectively.
Presenting the awards to the different winners at the Liberia Athletics Federation’s office on Randall Street recently, the Operation Manager of the Foundation; Emmanuel Divine Kpotoe said the award ceremony was in fulfillment of the commitment the Organization made winners who participated in the event.
“We have awards and appreciation for every winner so we just want to say thanks to every one of you for being here, we appreciate your time being here” he stated.
Mr. Kpotoe stated that the Foundation had a successful 5K Run for Change that which he thinks lots of young people felt the impact and most of them were happy.
“And this is the second edition of the Bill Rogers Youth Foundation 5K Run for Change we had the first edition last year which most of you participated and this is our second edition” he added.
According to him, as time goes by things will get better thus calling on recipients to accept what was given to them as the Foundation looks forward to a better future for the children of Liberia.
Mr. Kpotoe assured the young people of Liberia that the Foundation is going to make sure that the program continues every year as it will be used to transform the lives of many young people who have the talents believing that those talents will be unleashed so that those youths can reach their full potential.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kpotoe giving a brief history of the Organization said the Bill Rogers Youth Foundation is a non-for profit non-governmental organization that is on a mission to discover and develop the talents of young people in order for them to positively impact their communities and the World at large.
He noted that the Organization has been having series of programs with regards to sports and education which have been done through its community initiative programs and has unveiled safe drinking water stations in various communities in and around Monrovia and Margibi respectively.
For his part, the CEO/Founder of the Bill Rogers Youth Foundation; Mr. Rogers has lauded partners and sponsors both in Liberia and Abroad for their support towards the just ended marathon.
Mr. Rogers said the event could not have been successful without the support of those partners and sponsors that came through on grounds that he alone cannot make it happen, but stated that he loves the game as such, he has to invest everything he has just to make the youths of Liberia happy.
“I want to extend my special thanks and appreciation to you guys for your energy, for your effort and for coming through to make this program successful; I want to say thanks to the Liberia National Olympic Committee, the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Liberia Athletics Federation the Ministry of Justice, the Government of Liberia and the Media for standing with us” he noted.
Mr. Rogers narrated that he believes that there will be a bigger sponsorship for the 2019 event expressing hope that the event is hosted twice a year (every six months) and have the biggest at the end of the year instead of hosting it once a year.
He then said the Foundation also hopes of hosting the race in the 15 Counties of Liberia stating that the 2019 Run for Change may be hosted in Margibi County. Bill who said the Foundation is here to discover and expose the talents of the young people of Liberia promised to continue on that path.
Also speaking, the President of the Liberia Athletics Federation; Mr. Mulbah Zaza on behalf of the Federation thanked Bill Rogers for the initiative. He said the Federation hopes to continue working with the Bill Rogers Youth Foundation as long as it continues to exist in Liberia promising to make it happen together.
