The Deputy Director General for Operations and Technical Services at Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA), Musa Konnah has disclosed that the entity is now ready to resume operation in Bong County.
The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority was established by an act of Legislature in 2014 to replace the Liberia Produce Marketing Corporation (LPMC) as defined in chapter 57 of the Executive law of 1973, for the purposes of promoting production, processing and marketing of high-quality agriculture commodities particularly cocoa, coffee and palm oil.
Speaking in an interview with this paper in Gbarnga on recently, Mr. Konneh said his visit was intended to get an impression on how things are going at the facilities as they prepare to resume operation this week.
During Deputy Director Visit to the county, he met with workers of the Bong County facility, who took him on a guarded tour of the facilities and the palm farm in the county.
The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority Deputy Director General for Operations and Technical Services stated that LACRA will resume full operation in Vegetable, Fish farming and palm harvesting in the county.
“Working on these modalities to established vegetables garden or farm for the production of sufficient vegetables in Bong County will help Liberia in boosting agriculture activity in the country,” he added.
According to Mr. Konneh, the five hundred and eighteen acres of land owned by the Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority in Bong County will be used for the targeted project.
He said others land space in Bong County will also be used for rice farming, stating that all is now set for the commencement of the initiative.
Mr. Konneh further noted that they are seeking the collaborative efforts of several agriculture groupings in Bong County for the speedy implementation of LACRA activities in the County.
The LACRA, Deputy Executive recited that their institution is at the same time contemplating on the renovation of the Liberia Produce Marketing Corporation (LPMC) facilities in Bong County in other to boost the agriculture system in the county.
Musa Konneh revealed that the project which is managed by the agriculture sector is a nationwide exercise with the plan of initiating it across the fifteen counties of this developing Country under the regime of President George Mannah Weah.
He named Bong, Lofa Grand Gedeh, Grand Bassa and Grand Cape Mount as areas their institution have huge land space and other facilities which will be used for different purposes.
He used the medium to call on Citizens of Bong County, most especially farmers groups to buttress the efforts of LACRA for the betterment of the sector.
He recounted that they want to curtail the importation of vegetables from neighboring countries and encourage adequate food productivity in the country.
