House of Representatives Probes shutting Down Of Internet/Social Media During June 7 Protest By Liberia Telecommunications Authority
The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its committee on Post and Telecommunication to investigate authorities of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority to explain the rationale for the shutting down of the internet and all social media networks in the country during the June 7 protest.
The body took the decision Tuesday, following the submission of a communication by Grand Bassa County District #5 Representative Thomas Goshua.
In his communication to plenary, the Grand Bassa lawmaker raised concerns as it relates to what would have happened during the course of the protest as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram were shut down.
The committee is expected to report in two weeks.
