“Don’t Get Caught Up In Political Web, Leave That With The Board” BWI Board Warns Employees
Amidst the ongoing indefinite go-slow action by some members of the Booker Washington Institute Workers Union (BOWIWU), the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institution, John Youboty has warned faculty members and employees of BWI to leave the politic with the Board of Governors and the President of the Republic of Liberia.
It can be recalled that Mr. Youboty and some members of the Board recently visited the School Campus and hurriedly arranged a meeting with the students and faculty members to calm down brewing tension at the Institute after the Union’s President threatened a go-slow action though Mr. Youboty said there is no tension on the Campus.
During the meeting, Mr. Youboty warned faculty members and employees of BWI not to waste their time or not to get caught up in the political web stating that what the board is interested in is for the school to be peaceful.
He also warned them to desist from the politics of who becomes the Institution’s Principal, noting that such decision should be left with the Board of Governors and the Office of the President of the Republic of Liberia.
Mr. Youboty recounted that members of the board passed a majority vote of no-confidence against the then Principal Atty. Harris Fomba Tarnue and appointed Mr. James Wremongar Walker to serve as Acting Officer-In-Charge to safeguard the assets of the institution pending the appointment of a new Principal.
He stated that it was based on the vote of no confidence that the Board of Governors made a recommendation and sent same to the Ministry of Education and the President.
Additionally, Mr. Youboty said at this time the Board and the Ministry have decided to have Mr. Walker as Acting Principal of the Institution thereby reaffirming that the Board is firmly behind him.
Mr. Youboty, “and we will take this all the way to the President even if it requires that we discuss this one on one, but again don’t waste your time faculty members, employees of BWI you are employees here don’t get caught up in the political web”.
He disclosed that up to date President George Manneh has said nothing to the Board as to what he wants to do about the BWI issue thereby assuring the Students and those in support of the leadership of the acting principal remains in the position until such time.
The BWI Board Chairman then accused some members of the Board whom he said have not attended one of the Board’s meetings for the past eight months of being the ones championing the cause of the then Administration.
The go-slow which started on Friday, June 14, 2019, in demand of President George Manneh Weah final determination on the “illegal suspension/removal” of the institute’s Principal Harris Fomba Tarnue has entered its fourth day with no intervention on the part of the President or the Ministry of Education.
This has led the President of the Booker Washington Institute Workers Union announcing plan for a total lockdown beginning Thursday, June 20, 2019, if the government does not intervene.
