The defendants, Oliver C. Konneh, Abu Keita, Mohammeh S. Keita, Joehnson Kpor, and Mohammeh A. Keita committed the crime of aggravated assault, a felony of second degree.
According to the indictment issued, on June 5,2019 at about 4:30am in the community of Oldroad, Gaye Town, the defendants, Oliver C. Konneh, Abu Keita, Mohammeh S. Keita, Joehnson Kpor and Mohammed A. Kaba, with criminal intent, purposely, knowingly and intentionally kidnapped the private prosecutor, Emmanuel Freeman from one section of the community against his will and without any provocation, illegally arrested, stripped him naked, handcuff and severely beat him with sticks, rocks and a piece of iron on his head and other parts of his body and thereby causing serious bodily injuries on the private prosecutor.
Furthermore, the indictment stated that Oliver C. Konneh, Mohammed S. Keita, Joehnson Kpor, Mohammed A. Keita and others to be identified, on board a white Nissan pickup, attempted giving one of their T-shirts, leaflets to the private prosecutor, Emmanuel Freeman, through a guy on board said vehicle, but the private prosecutor, Emmanuel Freeman refused to accept the leaflets and T-shirt on ground that the distributors’ family members who are believed are living abroad should be brought back to Liberia and should be present before he could receive their leaflets and T-shirts.
Accordingly, having rejected the leaflets and T-shirts offered, private prosecutor Emmanuel Freeman, the defendant Oliver C. Konneh, Abu Keita, Mohammed S. Keita, Joehnson Kpor, Mohammeh A. Kaba and others to be identified left the scene to various designations.
Narrating further, the indictment added that while private prosecutor, Emmanuel Freeman was sitting at Noami’s Shop on the night of June 5 ,2019, co-defendant Abu Keita, along with defendants Oliver C. Konneh. Mohammed S. Keita, Joehnson Kpor, Mohammed A. Kaba and others to identified on board the same vehicle came back with criminal minds and intent to kidnap, attack and inflict bodily injuries upon the private prosecutor without any provocation from him (prosecutor), suddenly jumped on the private prosecutor at first sight in plain view of Noami and other bystanders, did attack, arrested him illegally without any provocation, kidnapped, handcuffed and stripped naked and took him into the yard of co-defendant, Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah and began to ferociously inflict upon him serious bodily injuries.
When the private prosecutor was kidnapped, handcuffed and being severely beaten and then taken into the yard of co-defendant Yekeh Y. Kolubah while bleeding from the wounds inflicted upon him by co-defendants, Oliver C. Konneh, Mohammed S. Keita, Joehnson Kpor, Mohammed A. Kaba and others to be identified, Representative Kolubah came out of his house with a pistol in his hand and remarked; this is the man, we’ll zero him tonight.
Representative Kolubah’s comments motivated co-defendants Oliver C. Konneh, Mohammed S. Kaba, Joehnson Kpor, Mohammed A. Kaba, and others to be identified, to further beat the private prosecutor mercilessly with sticks, rocks and pieces of iron in pain view of Representative Kolubah upon his instruction.
That with blatant criminal intent to mislead public attention from the fact that the private prosecutor was kidnapped with an obvious plan to murder him in cold blood, the defendants, Oliver C. Konneh, and others defendants, including Representative Kolubah referred to the private prosecutor as a rogue or a thief who had stolen a cellphone from one of co-defendants, Representative Kolubah’s bodyguards.
The victim, Emmanuel Freeman was mobbed with sticks, iron and rocks on parts of his body, thereby causing him to sustain serious bodily wounds, pain, and bled profusely. He later sought medical treatment at the J.F.K. hospital.
However, defendants Oliver C. Konneh and other defendants in the course of committing a theft stole, took and carried away the private prosecutor’s two LG phones.
At the same time, a Writ of Arrest was issued on all the defendants to be arrested and brought before Criminal Court A at the Temple of Justice.
