Qatari Investors Visit, New UN Resident Rep. Mission, Top Speaker Chambers Engagements with Foreign Diplomats and Liberian Muslim Pilgrims

During an intermittent meeting at his Capitol Building office in Monrovia, House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers held talks with the new UN Resident Coordinator, Dr. Kingsley Opoku Amaning, and Amb .M. Fahad Rashid Al- Muraili of the Embassy of the State of Qatar accredited near Monrovia.

Dr. Kingsley Opoku Amaning has taken up his assignment from the United Nations New York headquarters as the new UN Resident Coordinator for Liberia.

Dr. Amaning, during the meeting, assured Speaker Chambers of his office’s readiness to work with the Liberian Government in providing technical support to strengthen good governance, rule of law, fiscal probity and other areas of critical needs where the United Nations can work with the Liberian Government and its people for the betterment of the society.

During the meeting, Speaker Chambers expressed gratitude to the United Nations family for seeing it fit, at this time, to assign a new Resident Coordinator to Liberia as the country strives to reshape and find a durable solution to critical governance issues ranging from the challenging Liberian economy, law reform, rule of law, amongst others.

Thereafter, House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers received in audience the Ambassador of the State of Qatar, H.E. M. Fahad Rashid Al- Muraili, at his Capitol Building Office in Monrovia.

Amb. Al-Muraili told Speaker Chambers that he has come to discuss about a planned investment delegation from the State of Qatar which is scheduled to be in Liberia anytime soon, in the month of September 2019.

Speaking through an interpreter, the Qatari Ambassador said the delegation’s visit has come out in response to the Liberian Government’s invitation to the Qatari Government, and it’s Business People.

Amb. Al-Muraili assured Speaker Chambers that the bilateral ties between the two countries is on a good track and then promised to hold positive conversations about potential areas of investment in the Liberian economy with the delegation when they arrived.

Senate Pro-Tempore, Hon. Albert Chie was also in attendance during the Qatari Ambassador’s visit. Sen. Chie thanked the Qatari Ambassador for the level of work since he assumed his duties in Liberia and promised the Liberian Senate’s cooperation with the Qatari Government’s efforts in Liberia ranging from bilateral ties, share values and cultures, along with any possible investment opportunities in the Liberian economy.

In response, House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers expressed optimism that the diplomatic ties between the two countries remain framed. Speaker Chambers says Liberia is open for business and has described the decision by the Qatari Government and people to send a team of investors to explore business opportunities as a step in the right direction and called on other bilateral friends of the country to do same.

Speaker Chambers then extended felicitations to the father of the EMIR of Qatar, the EMIR in-charge, and the people of Qatar.

In another development, House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers has met with a sect of the delegation of Liberian Muslim Pilgrims who have returned from Mecca, Saudi Arabia where religious rites and prayers were offered as part of the Islamic Faith.

According to the spokesperson of the delegation, Hon. Mariama Fofana, 325-pilgrims received travel documents and visas, 324-pilgrims were able to make the trip, 323-pilgrims returned in good health, one person died before the trip, whilst one person died after the trip and the other got sick during the pilgrimage and was flown to a third country for medical attention.

The delegation then offered prayers for Speaker Chambers and the Legislature as a body. Responding, Speaker Chambers thanked the pilgrims for the level of intercession to God for Liberia and its people, referring to them as his uncles, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Deputy House Speaker Prince Moye and other members of the House of Representatives were also in attendance.
