“Bring Back Our Rice Mail Machine” Bong Citizens Demands LACRA
Bong County Citizens are calling on the Liberia Agriculture Commodities Regulatory Authority (LACRA) local office to bring back their Rice Mail Machine.
LACRA was established by an act of Legislation in 2014 to replace the Liberia Produce Marketing Corporation (LPMC) as defined in chapter 57 of the Executive Law of 1993 to promote production, processing, and marketing of high quality of agriculture commodities particularly Cocoa, Coffee and palm oil in the Country.
Currently, there is serious dissatisfaction at the institution’s local office in Bong County following a call from residents of the County many of whom are said to be marginalized as a result of reported rice machine disparity at the entity.
The aggrieved citizens are threatening to stage a demonstration at the facility if the institution’s Director-General Dr. John Flomo and Deputy Director-General Musa Konneh refuse to address their concerns.
They said the local leadership of LACRA in Bong County chaired by Rev. Jackson G. Torklor, Manager and Wilfred R. Tanton, agriculture coordinator has over the past allegedly collude with the Palm Cutter Associations president Victor Paye to sell the machine that was left behind by LPMC in the County.
According to the aggrieved citizens, the Palm Cutter Association President Victor Paye and followers were arrested and detained in October last year at the Liberia National Police head office for their alleged involvement in the looting of rice mail machine, but they were free from the custody of the LNP by a phone called from Dr. Flomo.
Moreover, the aggrieved citizens are calling on the Bong County Legislative Caucus to intervene in the situation if LACRA work should continue.
The Bong County citizens have blamed Dr. Flomo for allegedly downplaying their concerns and pushing the interest of the alleged criminals forward at the entity in the County.
The Liberia Agriculture Commodities Regulatory Authority is currently managed by the Director-General Dr. John Flomo who reports directly to the Ministry of Agriculture in a centralized coordination system.
The aggrieved citizens further said since the ascendency of Dr. Flomo as Director-General of LACRA, he has failed to improve the institution’s facility in the County and criminal activity has been on the increase because Dr. Flomo is backing those alleged criminals.
The Bong County citizens are calling on President George Weah to dismiss the former Bong County Technical College President who was allegedly accused of corruption during his regime at the College in the County.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the Deputy Director-General for operation at the Liberia Agriculture Commodities Regulatory Authority, Musa Konneh told this paper to call the Director-General Dr. John Flomo.
But all efforts made by this paper to contact Dr. Flomo prove fruitless because his phone rang without response; investigation continues!
