Lofa and Nimba In Last Four – But Confusion Emerges Over Who Meets Who In Semis
Nimba and Lofa Counties booked their respective places in the
2019/2020 national county sports meet semifinal Monday.
Nimba County scored a 4-1 victory over 2004 champions Gbarpolu
County to progress to the last four at the SKD Sports Complex.
The game was heading to penalty kicks in extra time when Nimba
County scored three times including a penalty to eliminate Gbarpolu
In the first match, Aliu Keita scored a late minute free-kick to help Lofa
County defeat champions Bomi County 3-2 to advance to the semifinals.
Gbarpolu began the scoring when Albert Kallon slotted in on 17 th minute to give the 2004 champions the lead, but Hope Jarbah gave Lofa some hopes when he scored a brace to give the lead to the Wologisi boys.
Jereco Sackie leveled for Bomi, before Aliu Keita came off the bench to
win the match for Lofa County.
In kickball, Lofa county kickball team reached their first semifinal with
a 2-0 home-runs win over Bomi County. It’s the first time, Lofa County kickball and Football teams have advanced to the semifinals in the same year.
Bong County defeated Montserrado county 1-0 home-run to also
advance to the last four.
Meanwhile, the semifinalists are left confused over whom they will meet on Thursday as several fixtures with different opponents been
released by top brass at the Youth and Sports Ministry.
The Deputy Minister for Sports Andy Quamie early released a semifinal
fixture pairing Lofa against Grand Kru County in football on Thursday
and Maryland against Nimba County in the other football match.
But, youth and Sports Minister, Zeogar Wilson had released another
semifinal fixture, pairing Lofa against Nimba in football and Maryland
against Grand Kru on Thursday.
The kickball fixture is also having a similar situation, as the Youth and
Sports Minister’s released fixture has paired Lofa against Bong and
Grand Bassa against Margibi.
The counties got to know their respective opponents just before the
quarterfinals began at the weekend, but speculations emerged that the
Organizers were contemplating on changing the fixtures.
County authorities are still awaiting a former communication from the
County Meet Organizers informing them of their respective semifinal
opponents on Thursday.
In a post on social media, Deputy Minister for Sports, Andy Quamie
questioned: “Where are all these experts getting their fixtures from? We worked on this a long time ago and posted, how come people are posting something different? Opello, Bryant, James Toe, Kesselee & myself worked on it and sent to the counties
